What do you think of when you see the word or think of riches? What is “being rich” to you?
Is it having enough to just get by, be it money, food, housing, material items? Is it having more than enough, an abundance to enjoy? Is it having so much that your “cup runs over” and you can bless other people with the abundance that you have?
Let’s go deeper – is it merely monetary and material possession-based, or is there more to being “rich?” How about wealthy? Prosperous?
As Americans, we are flooded daily with Capitalism and the American Dream. While I am not here to have a political argument – I have to state my point of view. (Who likes or respects someone who doesn’t?)
I run a business. I like capitalism. I like the opportunity that it brings me to earn money to bless others with and create a great life and legacy for my family. But I know it has its flaws. Just like anything else. Nothing on this earth is perfect and should be subject to continual improvement – be it businesses, political concepts, other organizations, churches, and people. The ugly side of Capitalism is the pursuit and aggrandizement of money. But here’s the catch – that’s the product of people’s own doing. Think about it – we hear stories of “so-and-so” (usually a celebrity of sorts) using, abusing, drinking, drugs, etc etc. (I know, think of what they COULD be doing with that money! And many do good things with it, like Kurt Warner, or Coach K.)
Money in itself is simply a tool. Capitalism in itself is simply a way of doing business and politics. What makes a difference is what WE do with it.
Stay tuned – as I know you’re anticipating, and rightly so .. there are far more riches in our world than the attainment of money.
Happy Hump-DayEE! 😉
article is quite interesting and hopefully true happiness rays began to warm the hearts of us all, when we can share it with sincerity. Greetings from Gede Prama 🙂
