“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”
Zig Ziglar
Have you ever gotten highly motivated, decided to make a change in your life, and then after a few days, or maybe even weeks, or maybe even a month or two, seem to lose your steam?
Why? What did you do? What happened?
Motivation is an inside job. No one is going to personally come alongside your bed in the morning and wake you up, telling you what to do and to get moving. Quite honestly, most of us had that back in elementary school days .. and it had the opposite effect on us! Many of us wound up disliking getting up and doing chores and going to school because we had to do it.
Well, that was a long time ago. We are adults now, and if you found something a week ago .. a month ago .. maybe even a year or more ago .. that you feel you are supposed to do, or want to do, but haven’t made the necessary steps (daily!) to attain/accomplish/achieve it .. need I say it? You get it, right? Motivation is an inside job! We need to find a way to get ourselves away from the apathy, away from the average, away from the hum-drum of every day life and focus .. and do what we really want to set out to accomplish!
Find a way to motivate yourself daily. How? The best way to find what motivates you is to figure out exactly WHY you want to do the thing you say you want to do. Then, dig deeper! Write it out on paper – if you can dig deeper, if you can still ask yourself, “why?,” then you haven’t truly identified why it is you want to do the said thing.
“I want to lose weight/fat and tone up.”
“Because I need to.”
“To reduce my own risk for disease (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer) and be a positive example for my kids.”
“Because I want to be around and see my kids graduate and them have children and lead healthy lives too, and I know that it starts with my example of being healthy to impact them positively.”
“I want to own a successful business.”
“To be successful and make more money than I would at my job.”
“To give my family/future family a better life.”
Get the point? Get after it today, y’all! WHATEVER your goals are! There is no such existence as someday .. there is only Monday-Sunday, and today is the best day we’ve got, because tomorrow is not guaranteed!
Just remember — invest in your own motivation daily. Set yourself on fire! Fire needs to be fed new logs to continue burning.
