Place
Close your eyes. (Read this first) What is your perfect place?
What does it look like? Smell like? Feel like?
What’s going on there?
What are you doing there?
Who are you with?
Ok, come back here for a minute. When was the last time you did that? I don’t just mean daydream, because I imagine that all of us daydream quite a bit (maybe not as bad as Ben Stiller in the Secret Life of Walter Mitty) but we go places in our minds, yes? We play out scenarios all the time. It’s logical. It’s natural.
But how often do we focus on where we really want to go, versus taking what life gives us? “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” right? Well, what if you gave the lemons back and demanded oranges instead? Or whatever it is that YOU want?
Our minds are like cameras – what we focus on is what develops in our lives. This can be great! If we use it to our advantage. But if we are complacent, drifting, not paying attention, this tool can be to our detriment.
Today’s dare: In addition to doing the above exercise, take some time to meditate on what you always imagined life would be like as a grownup when you were a kid/younger. What did you want life to be like? Take the time to see it, smell it, listen to it, look around .. taste it. Write it down.
The desires in our hearts are there for a reason.
love you! a
